Charities
We act for more than 30 charities, both locally and further afield, giving us in-depth knowledge and expertise in this sector. Our specialist team includes members of the Charity and Voluntary Sector Group of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales.
We understand that charities, their trustees and their managers face ever-increasing demands as a result of complex legislation, including financial reporting and risk management. Changes introduced under the Charities Act 2006 also mean new challenges for the sector.
Our detailed knowledge of the technical and legal requirements of the accounting regime affecting charities means that we can keep your charity compliant while adding value to your organisation through our cost-efficient and effective approach.
Communication is crucial, so we meet regularly with senior members of each charity’s board of governance and hold timely seminars on key issues. Our services include:
- audit and accountancy – our specialist accounts service enables charity clients to meet statutory requirements, while we add value to audits through both verbal and written feedback
- governance – we can advise on internal controls, risk management and the role of trustees
- outsourced services – we provide services including bookkeeping, management accounts and payroll to many of our non-audit charity clients
- strategic advice – we can advise on business and organisational plans, drawing on expertise from across the firm
- tax – we are experienced in tax-efficient fundraising, the use of trading subsidiaries and employment taxation
- VAT – we can advise on minimising VAT costs through use of effective structures and available exemptions.
