John O'Groats to Lands End Charity Cycle Challenge

View progress >>

During the last 17 years, as many of you will know, I have participated in a number of sporting challenges for various charities. More than 20 charities have benefited from my enjoyment, or as some of you think, my madness, of marathons, cycling, triathlons and walks for which I have raised approximately £50,000.

In 2008, to celebrate my 50th birthday and 18th consecutive year of fundraising, my aim is to double the sums raised.

At present the mind is still very willing but the body is starting to creak. However, a couple of friends at my running club, John (the Chairman), and Andy had been talking about doing ‘Le JOG’, I soon pitched in and within days it was a commitment...

On 1 June 2008, exactly one month after my 50th, we will depart from John O’Groats and cycle to Lands End taking in (on foot) the 3 peaks, of Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon and therefore cycling around 1,200 miles.

I have to admit to being a fair weather cyclist but this winter I am continuing to cycle from home to work twice a week and each weekend in training for this challenge.

The charities I will be raising funds for are the Wessex Cancer Trust, Rose Road Association, Wooden Spoon (Hampshire region) and Emmaus, Hampshire.

Brief details of each charity are set out below but you can obtain more detailed information from their websites.
